File permissions

We have two ways to assign permissions to files
          1. Numeric mode
          2. Symbolic mode

Numeric mode

•We assign numerics to permissions like
       read       4
       write      2
       execute  1
•chmod 777 filename/dirname
assign full permissions to all users.
•chmod 666 filename/dirname
it assigns read and write permissions to all users

•chgrp newgroupname file/directory
it changes groupname for file or directory.
•chown newownername file/directory
it changes owner for file or directory.
example; chown sidadm:sapsys newdir
Symbolic mode
Here we assign symbols to users.
•    owner     u
•    group      g
•    others      o
•    all            a
•    read          r
•    write        w
•    execute     x
•    adding permissions        +
•    removing permissions    -

     To assign permissions
•    chmod ugo+rwx file/dir.
example chmod 755 newdir
      To remove permissions
•    chmod ugo-rwx file/dir.

What is SAP Router ?

üThe program SAP router is the router (software) for the connection from customers to SAP and vice versa.
üSAProuter is a software program to control and monitor
communication between your R/3 servers and the   corresponding frontend computers, as well as RFC access between different servers

üIncreases network security , simplifies the configuration of routes

Ã¼ The product represents an application level gateway for SAP communication and can be used alone or together with an IP firewall.
ü SAProuter is simply placed in the logical communication path between the participating systems and represents an additional access security level, both within your internal network and for connections to or from external partners.

ü This provides you with an additional access control in addition to the usual security mechanisms of user authorization even before the communication partner reaches your SAP System.
ü Unauthorized access to critical data or systems can therefore be better avoided.

ü Connections established using SAProuter have the additional advantage that no end-to-end connections between the participating system are necessary on network level.

ü If accessing a front-end PC on an R/3 server with an intermediate SAProuter,
ü It is sufficient if both parties can reach the SAProuter
ü Each sub network stored logically behind a SAProuter is therefore reduced to the network address of the SAProuter.

ü Without SAProuter, the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses must be unique, which cannot always be guaranteed, particularly on international networks.
ü With SAProuter it is possible to connect two points that have unofficial, or even identical, IP addresses.

ü Therefore, it is rarely necessary to adapt existing address   topologies using official IP addresses.
ü SAProuter is available on all R/3-relevant system platforms.
ü SAP Active Global Support only supports SAProuter connections due to these advantages. Because SAP routes all accesses to customer systems via a corresponding SAProuter, the connection between SAP and the customer is reduced to a single SAProuter

 >> Control and log the connections to your SAP System, e.g. from                  an SAP service center
>> Set up an indirect connection when programs involved in the     connection cannot communicate with each other due to the network configuration
• Address conflicts when using non-registered IP addresses
• Restrictions which exist for firewall systems
>> Improve network security by means of the following:
• A password, protecting from unauthorized external access
• Allowing access from only particular SAProuters
• Only allowing encrypted connections from a known partner

Data is compressed by different compression techniques (e.g. dictionary encoding, run length encoding, sparse encoding, cluster encoding, indirect encoding) in SAP HANA Column store.
When main memory limit is reached in SAP HANA, the whole database objects (table, view, etc.) that are not used will be unloaded from the main memory and saved into the disk.
These objects names are defined by application semantic and reloaded into main memory from the disk when required again. Under normal circumstances SAP HANA database manages unloading and loading of data automatically.
However, the user can load and unload data from individual table manually by selecting a table in SAP HANA studio in respective Schema- by right-clicking and selecting the option "Unload/Load".
SAP HANA Server consists of
  1. Index Server
  2. Preprocessor Server
  3. Name Server
  4. Statistics Server
  5. XS Engine

What is SAP HANA?

• SAP HANA is a flexible, data-source-agnostic appliance that enables customers to analyze large
volumes of SAP ERP data in real-time, avoiding the need to materialize transformations.
• SAP HANA is a hardware and software combination that integrates a number of SAP components
including the SAP HANA database, SAP LT (Landscape Transformation) Replication Server,
SAP HANA Direct Extractor Connection (DXC) and Sybase Replication technology.
• SAP HANA is delivered as an optimized appliance in conjunction with leading SAP hardware
partners.

• SAP HANA database
• The SAP HANA database is a hybrid in-memory database that combines row-based,
column-based, and object-based database technology. It is optimized to exploit the parallel
processing capabilities of modern multi-core CPU architectures. With this architecture, SAP
applications can benefit from current hardware technologies.
• The SAP HANA database is the heart of SAP’s in-memory technology offering, helping customers
to improve their operational efficiency, agility, and flexibility.

DATABASE
A collection of information that has been systematically organized In form of physical files for easy access and analysis..
A database is a set of files:
                                        1. Control file
                                        2  Redo file.
                                        3. Datafile
                                        4.  Parameter file

Every running Oracle database is associated with an Oracle instance. When a database is started on a database server , Oracle allocates a memory area called the System Global Area (SGA) and starts one or more Oracle processes. This combination of the SGA and the Oracle processes is called an Oracle instance. The memory and processes of an instance manage the associated database's data efficiently and serve the one or multiple users of the database.

       PARAMETER FILE (init<sid>.ora)
Oracle uses a parameter file when starting up the database.

The pfile is a text file containing the parameters and their values

for configuring the database and instance.

The default location is under $ORACLE_HOMe/dbs directory

The parameter files tell oracle the following when starting up an

instance:-

•The name of the database and location of control files.
•The size of the SGA.
•The location of the dump and trace files.
•The parameters to set limits and that affect capacity.

Some of the important parameters are:
·        db_block_size
·        db_files
·        undo_management
·        log_buffer
·        max_dump_file_size
·        db_block_buffers
·        shared_pool_size
     log_checkpoint_interval

INIT<SID>.SAP

The SAP utilities BRBACKUP, BRARCHIVE, and BRRESTORE must be configured before they can be used. To do this you must set the appropriate parameters in initialization profile init<DBSID>.sap. Before using one of the SAP utilities, find out exactly which parameters you have to configure. Changes to parameter values do not take effect until you call the corresponding utility.
  InitSID.sap is located in /usr/sap/<SAPSID>/SYS/exe/run/initSID.sap
  Important parameters in init<Sid>.sap
•archive_copy_dir:
This parameter identifies the directory used by BRARCHIVE to back up the offline redo log files to a local disk
•backup_mode:
This parameter is used by BRBACKUP and BRRESTORE to determine the scope of the backup/restore activity.
•backup_type:
Identifies the default type of the database backup. This parameter is only used by BRBACKUP

tape_size: Storage size in gigabytes (G), megabytes (M) or kilobytes (K) for the tapes that will be used for backups and for archiving redo log files.
remote_host: this parameter is to specify the name of the remote host, if you want to make a backup to a remote disk
volume_archive: This parameter is used by BRARCHIVE to identify the  volume/directory to be used for the archive of the offline redo log files
volume_backup: This parameter is used by BRBACKUP to identify the volume/directory to be used for the backup of the database or non-database files
backup_dev_type: Determines the backup medium that you want to use .It may be a disk, tape etc

  Database Buffer Cache:
Is a fairly large memory object that stores the actual data blocks that are retrieved from datafiles by system queries and other data manipulation language commands
The buffers in the cache are organized in two lists:
–The write list and,
–The least recently used (LRU) list.
The write list holds dirty buffers – these are buffers that hold that data that has been modified, but the blocks have not been written back to disk.
The LRU list holds free buffers, pinned buffers, and dirty buffers that have not yet been moved to the write list.  Free buffers do not contain any useful data and are available for use.  Pinned buffers are currently being accessed
  Redo Log buffer Cache:
The Redo Log Buffer memory object stores images of all changes made to database blocks.  As you know, database blocks typically store several table rows of organizational data.       This means that if a single column value From one row in a block is changed, the image is stored.  Changes include insert, update, delete, create, alter, or drop.
      Data dictionary Cache:
The Data Dictionary Cache is a memory structure that caches data dictionary information that has been recently used.  This includes user account information, datafile names, table descriptions, user privileges, and other information.
The database server manages the size of the Data Dictionary Cache internally and the size depends on the size of the Shared Pool in which the Data Dictionary Cache resides.  If the size is too small, then the data dictionary tables that reside on disk must be queried often for information and this will slow down performance.
